1. What is the body of a web page?

The notion of “body” refers in this context to the visible main content of a web page, such as the text, the images and the links. The main content can be found between the <body> tags in the HTML source code. The body tags are the most important tags for any HTML web page as they are displayed in the browser, which means that this content is directly visible to the visitors (unlike the metadata for example).

2. Why should I optimize the body of my web pages?

The body element of web pages has a major impact on :

  • The impressions visitors have of a company, its trustworthiness and its expertise;

  • The evaluation of the website by search engines and therefore its rankings in search results.

This is why the optimization of the body of your web pages should hold a prominent place in your SEO strategy.

The trick is to get visitors to engage with your content, while also giving search engine robots crawling your website what they are looking for to make sure your website gets the visibility it deserves in search engines’ results.

Check this article if you want to know more about SEO and how it works.

3. How to optimize the body of my pages?

The main body element of your page is usually composed of text. To optimize the written content of your page :

  • Make sure you select the right keyword(s) for the page you want to optimize (check out this article for more information on that topic).

  • Integrate your keyword(s) naturally into your text, preferably at the beginning.

  • Do not use each of your keywords more than 3 times in your content.

  • Make sure you write for humans and not for machines.

  • Write an informative text that is relevant for your visitors and will answer the questions they may have about your company, services or products.

  • Write at least 300 words.

  • Use headings to structure your text (learn how to optimize your headings here).

  • If you operate locally, don’t forget to mention your location.

Please note that you can also optimize the other elements of your body, such as the images for example. For more information on how to optimize your pictures, check out this article.
