Having blogs with up-to-date and interesting content can attract a lot of new potential customers in every business sector. A blog is also another way to advertise your products and services and it shows the visitor your expertise, which makes you more trustworthy. Another advantage of having a blog is that it serves as the perfect platform for collaborations and content exchange. Lastly, it is also good for SEO. When you have a blog that is regularly updated with content that is of high quality and about relevant topics, it can have a significant impact on your website’s performance in your Search Engine Optimization (SEO). We will give you some tips on how to write interesting SEO-friendly blogs to boost your website’s online visibility!

1. Focus on the topic and keywords

Think about a certain topic

As straightforward as it sounds, it is important to think about the topic you want to cover. Which topic is relevant and interesting? What has been a new development within your business sector that you could write about? As it should be worthwhile for visitors to read your blog, you should also think about how the new blog should benefit your readers.

Keywords

Once you have the topic in mind, it is time to look for your keywords before you start writing. It is fundamental to look for keywords that will help you make your blog appear in the top search engine results when somebody looks for that keyword, which will increase traffic to your website. This is the “Prioritization of keywords for SEO”, which means you need to know your market and your business sector. By knowing the right keywords customers would want to use to find a certain product or service you offer, impacts your SEO rankings massively! In this case, you can also do some “Keyword Research” in order to determine what keywords are essential for your business and might actually help your online visibility and what keywords to avoid in this case!

With you being the expert in your business sector, it is important to put yourself in the shoes of a customer who is not so much of an expert in this field. Try to avoid too complicated terminology that a customer cannot think of, instead, try to think of keywords that a customer could actually use in search engines.

One great way to figure them out might be to use the queries report function of Google Search Console that identifies exactly for which keywords your website is found. This will help you get an idea of what your audience is interested in and create content around that/those keywords.

Another very exceptional tool that might help you is the keyword tool from rankingCoach 360 or rankingCoach FREE, which helps you find out about the search volumes and competitiveness of your chosen keywords.

Make sure that the keywords you select have search volume higher than 0 and that the keywords are actually being used in search engines. It is also important to ensure that the keywords are realistic and achievable for your business by looking at the competition level.

It is better to target 1 or 2 keywords per page. When you have multiple pages ranking for the same keyword, you’re actually competing with yourself. Consequently, each page has a lower CTR, diminished authority, and lower conversion rates than one consolidated page will have.

2. Structure, paragraphs, internal links and backlinks

Write & structure

Once you have defined the keywords for your blog, you can start creating content around these keywords. Here you can read some SEO content tips for your website and get inspired on how to do it properly! When writing the blog, you have to keep in mind that you are writing both for readers and search engines.

Another important aspect of the content is to be able to write content in such a way that it “lives longer” than a few months after an update of a certain product. In this case, we are talking about “The Evergreen Content” which is a type of content that is timeless, sustainable, and lasting over time. In other words, it is always relevant to our audience despite the passage of time. It is of high quality, original, and gives value to the reader. All in all, it is the type of content that we should aim to create and have, not only for our visitors but also for Google.

Even though your aim is to sell your product or service, not all visitors are interested in buying (yet). While your website should be focused on selling your products or services, your blog posts should help customers to get advice, more useful information, new updates and ideas, and answer their questions. This could lead readers that did not intend to buy a product to perhaps buy it in the future.

Make sure to have a clear structure for your blog. Every post should have an introduction, body, and conclusion. The introduction should be the topic at hand, the body should contain the main message and the conclusion should be the summary of the most important ideas. This will not only make it easier for your visitors to read and understand your post better, but it will also help search engines to crawl your website better. Also, it will be easier if it’s in a Scannable structure (short paragraphs) for Google and customers alike to read. Lastly, be simple and straightforward.

Another important way of structuring your Blog is to use headings correctly. Having clear headings allows both search engines and readers to navigate more easily through your text. Make sure to include related keywords in the headings.

Short paragraphs

Make sure your paragraphs are not too long. You should not make a new line after every sentence, but it is certainly not a good idea to have long paragraphs as there is a high possibility that most of your visitors are reading from their mobile device, so concise paragraphs make it a lot easier for them to read your text. To help with that, also use bullet points and bold for keywords, which will really help to focalize the attention.

Internal Links

In your blog, it is also good to add internal links. If you have an existing blog post that is related to this topic, or if you are mentioning a certain product of yours, you should have a link to those pages! This allows people to surf through your website and stay longer, which is another important SEO factor. It also helps search engines to discover new pages on your website so that they can crawl those pages as well.

Backlinks

Not only is a blog great to implement internal links, it is also a great platform to place external links, have collaborations and content exchange! If you are a vegan restaurant, you could perhaps try to have a link exchange with a Food blogger who writes about vegan products, which can result in a great backlink for your website!

3. Media and Technical SEO

Media

Images, infographics and graphs can be very valuable to a blog. It has been proven that pages with images receive a lot more traffic than pages with just regular text. Don’t forget that people also use Google to look up Images, therefore, having an image on your blog can increase the online visibility of your blog.

Infographics have gained a lot of popularity online and continue to be an important medium. Infographics represent the message of the blog in an effective and visually pleasing way. It helps to keep the attention of the reader and can make heavy topics easier to understand and more enjoyable to read.

Graphs and charts can also add a lot of value to your blog, even though posts that contain data do not necessarily have mass appeal, it is very valuable from an educational and business perspective and they can attract the attention of niche blogs that link back to them.

Do not forget to add ALT tags to the images to let Google know what the images or graphs are about, as many blogs receive a lot of traffic just from their images!

Another very helpful idea and also easier to access for eventual customers is the use of YouTube videos in your blogs. In this case we are talking about YouTube SEO which is technically SEO but then in a visual context!

Technical SEO

Important for your blog post is to always make sure that you have at least 1000 words, as Google is not a big fan of pages with little text. Also, remember to add a meta description and a meta title and to optimize your pictures!

Remember to post consistently! It is recommended to write a blog once a week instead of starting it and leaving it halfway. Search engines like fresh content, therefore if you update your blog consistently (and your website), it will have more possibilities to make it to the top in the search results!

Once you have published your blog, do not forget to let others know you have a new blog live! Use your social media channels to make people excited about your new blog and link it to them.
